Character Name: Paine
Character Canon: Final Fantasy X/X-2 [OU]
Character Age/Gender: 18/Female
Canon Point: End of Chapter 2.
Character Canon History: Wiki Link.
Character Personality:
Paine is the more serious member of the Gullwing trio, the textbook sarcastic lady with a cold exterior…or, at least, that’s how she comes off to most. While it would be a leap to say that she’s all warm and fuzzy on the inside, there’s a caring, friendly, and even fun-loving girl beneath that layer of ice – she just knows when to let that side out, and when to keep her focus.
Still, one of the most key aspects of her personality is her seriousness. While she isn’t necessarily all business all the time, when a situation warrants real attention – or, really, when she’s presented with a goal in general – she remains focused. This means that she’s often the most on top of things, and when her friends are prone to distraction she plays the role of reigning them in and keeping them on task. This is where most people would get the impression that she’s cold; she just doesn’t mess around when there’s something more important to do.
That being said, another reason she can come off as icy is that she generally is very reserved. She doesn’t often put herself out there or make small talk. This isn’t because she’s shy, but more because she genuinely doesn’t see the point of getting involved in things she isn’t the least bit interested in. Relaxing and chatting about nothing is an activity she saves for friends, the people she already likes to be around.
If one talks to Paine often, it’s very hard not to notice her attitude. Sarcasm is a favorite tool of hers, and while she does have a sense of tact she isn’t afraid to be a bit cutting with her words. She’s honest, brutally so at times, and she’s not one to hide her true opinions. She’s the type who will say what everyone else is thinking, and with near-perfect timing. As said before, however, she knows when to have an attitude and when to not – the way she communicates is normally very controlled, though she relaxes quite a bit around people she’s close to.
Like I said before, Paine does lighten up considerably around her friends. While she still throws around sarcastic comments, around her friends she’ll joke, tease, and even goof off a little, even if she isn’t as giggly about it as, say, Rikku. More importantly, though, she cares deeply about her friends. Even if she doesn’t necessarily say it out loud, the people she’s befriended are those she respects on some important levels. Though she doesn’t like to reveal everything about herself without heavy prompting, she does trust the people she’s willing to call friends. It’s even fair to say that she would trust them with her life, which was why the events that transpired during and after the final Crimson Squad evaluation hurt her deeply. She values her friendships highly, which was why in Last Mission she makes sure the group reunites after falling out of contact.
Paine does have issues that she prefers to keep under wraps - her experiences during her time with the Crimson Squad changed her, made her more cynical and weary of the world. However, the nightmarish experience did not break her, and that serves as proof that Paine is a strong person. All of the confusion and betrayal changed her life, but she handled her experiences by taking on a determination to find out the truth. Though she has a very thick skin, and takes her time when it comes to talking about her past, her ability to cope and find ways to move on shows how strong she is as a person.
Character Abilities:
Paine is a fighter and has been for a long while, so she has quite a bit of natural ability and fighting experience. However, most of her special abilities come from her Dresspheres. As of her current canonpoint, Paine will possess the Warrior, Gunner, Thief, Songstress, Black Mage, White Mage, Gun Mage, Full Throttle, Alchemist, and Dark Knight Dresspheres.
Character Inventory:
- Dresspheres (Warrior, Gunner, Thief, Songstress, Black Mage, White Mage, Gun Mage, Alchemist, Dark Knight, and Full Throttle)
- The “Hour of Need” Garment Grid, which allows her to switch from one Dressphere to another in the middle of battle. Five Dresspheres can be on the Garment Grid at one time.
- 5 Hi-Potions
- 5 Ethers
- 5 Phoenix Downs

Dear Mun Post.
There were a lot of reasons why the Songstress Dressphere wasn't exactly her favorite. For one, it was too passive for her tastes. She'd had enough of hanging in the back and watching two years ago, and considering how that had turned out...well, the experience left a bad taste in her mouth. That was why she now defaulted to more aggressive roles in battle; she'd much rather bring the hurt than watch other people do it for her.
So why was she doing this now?
"The second we get back to the Celsius," she said, holding the microphone awkwardly, "I'm taking this off. No buts."
It's more fun than you think! Yuna said. Just try it already! Rikku said. After hours of nagging, the only option left to her had been to cave.
It was, to no surprise, just as annoying as she expected. She felt ridiculous, standing around and dancing while the other two did all the fighting. And what for, anyway? There were other, less annoying ways to blind or poison fiends. At least when she had tried White Mage, she had felt somewhat useful, though still out of her element.
No, Yuna was much more suited for this than her. Still, she had a deal to fulfill. She'd sing and dance for now - and own it, if she could - but no amount of pestering would ever get her to do this again.
